ASTRON: a tour of the plant in Yaroslavl

We have repeatedly shared information about the activity of Astron, a subcontractor for the construction of the "Sovelmash" design and engineering technology department, about the principles, finer points and peculiarities of the company's work. Today we are offering you to take a tour of the plant in Yaroslavl conducted for us by Dmitriy Lozhnikov, head of the quality department at Astron.

The building was built in 2009 modelled on the company's enterprise in Luxembourg. The scale of the plant is impressive, and the figures won't leave anyone indifferent. The nominal capacity of the plant today is 600 tons of finished products per week, which is about 30,000 tons per year!

All the workshops here are located in parallel. In the largest premises, that is the workshop for manufacturing the elements of the main load-bearing frame, the main products are made - welded I-beams and columns. The I-beams are assembled on a beam welding machine, then moved to the assembly table, where the products are shaped in accordance with the detailed drawings, and the Quality Control Department (QC) conducts the initial check. After that, the structures are delivered to the welding boxes, where they are prepared for paint coating.

The plant also has a number of other workshops and areas for execution of work.
They include:

- Preparation area for heavy-plate material, where the incoming quality control is also carried out: the geometric dimensions and parameters are selectively checked, and the samples are chosen to test the mechanical properties. After that, the metal is cut into blanks using a gas cutter for subsequent assembly and welding of columns and crossbars;

- Paint coating line. The coating process is not started immediately. First, the beams are hung vertically, passed through a shot-blasting machine - a shot blaster, then moved to the airflow booth and only then to the paint booth.
