Questions & Answers | Are you planning to launch mass production of hub motors?
A lot of our project participants are familiar with the sensational development of Duyunov's team: the world's only induction hub motor. It has been tested on various models of electric motorcycles and electric bicycles. Performance tests on vehicle prototype models confirmed the advantages of the combined winding hub motors over BLDC motors: Duyunov's motors demonstrated greater power, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
Why has "SovElMash" switched to the development of drive and general-purpose industrial motors with "Slavyanka", and are there any plans to launch at least small-scale production of hub motors? Dmitriy Duyunov answers these questions.
The developer of the "Slavyanka" technology explains that there is a long way from the creation of a vehicle prototype model with a hub motor to the establishment of mass production. It is necessary to solve a number of design issues, for example, to figure out how to easily replace a tire on a wheel without dismantling the entire motor. Besides, to produce the unique hub motor, it is necessary to make appropriate equipment, hire and train a team of specialists.
All of this cannot be done on those premises that are currently rented in Zelenograd by "SovElMash". At the current stage in the company's development, developing general-purpose industrial motors and drive motors is a more promising direction. We should not forget that the main resources are now being used to solve the top-priority task: construction of the innovative center.
However, Duyunov's team won't abandon this development, it will be possible to implement it in the design and engineering department.
