Forgotten technologies of the USSR

Forgotten technologies of the USSR

The Soviet Union was a factory supplying advanced technologies. However, after the superpower had collapsed, many of them were abandoned due to a stop of funding. Decades later, some Soviet technical ideas are being implemented in other countries, and some of them have been lost.
In this regard, crowd funding of innovative projects is an alternative that can implement globally significant projects.
Let's recollect the most interesting technologies born in the USSR.

Reusable rockets

Scientists have been working for decades to create reusable rockets that can return to earth after launching the ship into orbit. This would significantly reduce the cost of space flights. Soviet and Russian scientists were the first ones to design the following developments:
- the reusable rocket booster "Baikal",
- the launch system "Energia".
Currently reusable rockets are being developed by Elon Musk.

Nuclear fusion reactor

The Soviet Union invented the tokamak system based on controlled thermonuclear fusion. Tokamaks were designed and operated on the USSR territory. And so far they are the most promising systems based on controlled thermonuclear fusion. Currently, several countries are working on developing the technology within the framework of the ITER project (the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor).
Success in this area will provide the world with a colossal source of energy.

Ternary computer

Over 60 years ago, Moscow State University computer center created a unique computer that still has no rivals.
The "Setun" is based on ternary computer architecture whereas all modern computers are operated by the binary one. The technology can significantly increase the performance of computers, so it may well become popular in the near future.

Electric car

Long before Tesla electric cars, electric motor cars appeared in the USSR. In 1935, the first Soviet electric car was built on the basis of the GAZ-A car. Around the same time, an electric garbage truck was designed on a converted ZIS-5 chassis.
In the 80's, a small-sized electric car with solar batteries was created.
There were a lot of other Soviet developments in this area.

Supersonic passenger aircraft

It was the Soviet Tu-144 developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in the 1960s that broke the sound barrier for the first time in the history of passenger aviation. It was in operation from 1975 to 1978. Then the technology was abandoned. The idea of transporting passengers at speeds greater than the speed of sound has been revived these days.

Ekranoplan

The unique ground effect vehicle was designed by the Soviet designer Rostislav Alekseyev in the 60s. The "Orlyonok" ekranoplan was successfully tested for two decades, after that funding for this vehicle ceased.
Today, the technology is considered a promising area, China is especially active in designing ekranoplans based on the Soviet experience.

The project "Duyunov's motors" makes another breakthrough technology of the Russian design engineer available to the world: the combined winding technology "Slavyanka". Join the team of the project investors to make history together — everything is in our hands!
