History repeats itself: airship construction was popular before | What holiday is it today?🎉
Learn more about airships.
Today, November 20, is Soviet Airship Day, a holiday celebrating the history and achievements of airship construction in the USSR. This day commemorates the achievements of Soviet engineers and designers in the field of aeronautics. It reminds us of the role that airships played in the development of the Arctic, transportation systems, aviation and science.
In the fall of 1930, two landmark events took place: the Zeppelin airship visited Moscow for the first time, and the first test flight of the USSR V-4 "Komsomolskaya Pravda" airship took place. After these events, airship construction reached an all-union scale! Soviet citizens were called upon to build a powerful "people's" airship fleet - the Lenin Squadron. The mass media, just like today, explained to people that airships were the most advanced means of communication and transportation, so it was imperative to build them😉
Everything worked out! Over the first month of the all-union campaign 429,582 rubles and 3 kopecks, 1 gold coin, 3 thousand Italian lire, 150 rupees, 10 thousand Japanese yen, 43 German marks, 8 dollars, 6 Swedish kronor and 81 øre, 13 Finnish marks, 1 Persian toman and "various valuables" were collected.
History repeats itself. In the Soviet Union, airships were widely used in a variety of applications, including civil aviation, military operations, and scientific research. And today new generation airships are intended to change the course of history by making a technology revolution in the development of modern air transport.
Happy holiday, dear friends!
