In a recent video, the originator of the technology Dmitriy Duyunov explained why and how this happens. Using combined winding make it possible to increase the frequency and reduce the size of the motor.
"One simple thing happens: the specific consumption of materials is reduced. The use of copper, electrical steel, aluminum, and everything else per kilowatt of power goes down. Consequently, the production cost of the motor is reduced."

Regular motors operate at a frequency of 50-60 Hz. "Slavyanka" based motors developed by "Sovelmash" operate at a frequency that is much higher than the standard one. One of the examples is the motor used in the certified angle grinder by "Sovelmash".
Had anyone tried increasing the frequency before "Sovelmash"? Conventional winding motors operated at the frequencies of up to 100 Hz. To raise the frequency, thin expensive steel plates had to be used, which was only expedient in aviation and space exploration. "Slavyanka" makes high frequency achievable in motors with classic iron parts, which means that this innovation is applicable in a variety of fields.

And using the technology along with frequency control adds to the benefits, enabling adjustment of the amount of energy needed to operate machinery. General-purpose industrial motors with frequency controllers are used everywhere, they run 24/7 and their power consumption and adjustment will determine how much we pay for electricity.
