How "Sovelmash" is implementing automated casting technologies
Work is in full swing at the Sovelmash foundry in every sense! The process for high-volume aluminum casting of electric motor rotors is being fine-tuned here.
The high-pressure die casting machine is not just a new piece of equipment, but an integrated system. A robotic manipulator feeds molten aluminum from a 300-liter crucible, and a fume extraction system makes the process not only efficient but also safe. Computers control the entire process, and a dedicated machine preheats the molds to the required temperature in advance.
The current objective is to refine the pouring process for a specific mold that enables four rotors to be cast at once. The quality of the first cast parts has proven to be high.
At the same time, the shop has already established a manual permanent-mold casting process. It is essential for producing prototypes.
The casting preparation process deserves special attention. Residual moisture must be removed from the rotor stacks, and the mold must be preheated. Every degree and every level of humidity—everything affects product quality.
