The global electric car market in numbers

Is the world shifting to electric vehicles?

According to EV-Volumes, in 2021 the number of new electric cars sold worldwide - including hybrids - more than doubled, from 3 to 6.6 million. The growth exceeded the projections by one million cars. The share of electric cars in the car market has also increased - up to 9%.

Countries widely differ in these indicators. China is ahead of the planet, with Europe a little behind. The high demand for electric cars there is supported by national governments. Experts believe that the market could have grown even more, but it was affected by the shortage of semiconductors and the rising cost of lithium, the main element in batteries.

Analysts anticipate growth in the market for electric cars in the coming years.
