Sovelmash introduces a product that is changing aviation
The company has developed a traction induction electric drive for aerial vehicles—drones, air taxis, and other vehicles. It is based on the patented Slavyanka combined-winding technology, owned worldwide exclusively by Sovelmash.
What makes the drive unique
It contains no permanent magnets, unlike the majority of BLDC motors used today in light aviation. This means no dependence on imported rare-earth metals, and increased reliability and service life. Designed and fully manufactured at the Sovelmash DETB (Russia).
Key specifications of the drive
• Outer-rotor electric motor, frame size 305, with a 50 mm stack.
• Weight – under 23 kg.
• Maximum speed – 2,800 rpm.
• Peak power – up to 60 kW.
What the kit includes
• An induction motor developed by Sovelmash.
• Motor controller.
• A 120 V battery pack and its electronic management system.
• Charger.
• Two-blade propeller, 187 cm in diameter.
In May 2026, the first sustained flights of the super-heavy-class drone Motylyok (Moth), equipped with these drives, took place. In doing so, Sovelmash proved for the first time in history that induction motors can be used as traction units on aircraft.
The serial production process has already been established at the Sovelmash DETB. All information about the product and purchasing options is available on the company website.
