5 dezvoltări ale viitorului

Our world is changing: every day new inventions are emerging and innovative technologies are being tested. One new patent can forever change the development of an entire industry if not the entire planet. That is why investors around the world are closely following the developments of scientists trying to predict the thrust of future market development.

To make you consider the long-term prospects, we are sharing a selection of 5 innovative projects of the future that scientists are currently working on:

1. Eternal 5D data storage disk. In the UK, the researchers have developed a sample of a unique storage disk with a capacity of 360 terabytes (TB) that records data in 5 dimensions and can withstand temperatures up to 1,000 degrees. Files are written as three layers of dots that change the polarization of light when illuminated and can be stored for billions of years. You can read information from the disk using a microscope and a polarizer. The developers are sure that this technology will become widespread in a short period of time.

2. Bioluminescent trees. This development has been inspiring scientists for the past few years: a special enzyme found in jellyfish and fireflies can give trees an amazing ability to glow. Just imagine the streets of big cities brightly lit not by lanterns and shop windows, but by lush crowns of maples and apple trees!

3. Bionic lens. The technology invented by a Canadian doctor is the implantation of a lens in the human eye. The operation lasts only a few minutes: the doctor removes the old eye lens and replaces it with a rolled-up lens that straightens out in just 10 seconds. By connecting to the ciliary muscle responsible for changes in the lens curvature, the lens fits into the optical system of the eyeball and returns visual acuity to patients with myopia, farsightedness and other problems not related to retinal damage.

4. Domed city. Dubai plans to build a giant shopping and entertainment mall with an area of 4.46 km2 covered with a glass sliding roof. Thanks to this architectural solution, the mall's developers want to control the climate under the dome by pushing it apart in winter and closing it in summer to protect guests from the scorching sun. Mall of the World is designed as a city: it has its own infrastructure for living, shopping, recreation and entertainment. When the facility is put into operation, it will be possible to say with certainty that humanity has learned to adapt to living in any climate zones. At the moment, there is no news about the construction.

5. Artificial leaves. Scientists have long struggled with the task of converting carbon dioxide into a useful resource for humanity. They seem to have succeeded this time: we are talking about developing artificial "leaves" that convert carbon dioxide in the atmosphere into a synthetic gas - a mixture of hydrogen gas and carbon monoxide. The resulting substance can be burned or converted into a hydrocarbon fuel. The advantage of the technology is the use of tungsten instead of precious metals: it is 20 times cheaper and works 1000 times faster, and therefore turns an original idea into a viable commercial project.
